As part of its building sector reports, the magazine highlighted the Top 10 Hospital Trends for 2024 that include the perspectives of our Natalie Petzoldt and Arjun Bhat.

Many of the trends highlight the need for adaptability, flexibility and preparation for the unknown, while also keeping up with rapidly changing technology, patient expectations and shrinking and expanding markets.

Natalie spoke to the numerous billion dollar plus projects in the works, noting “There will be larger buildings in the future.” This trend coincides with many healthcare organizations merging, the need for more capacity and consolidation of service lines into a one-stop building.

The BJC HealthCare Campus Renewal inpatient tower project is set to redefine the St. Louis skyline when it opens in 2025.

Though projects are getting bigger in scale, that doesn't mean the patient experience is being downsized. That remains a top priority for new build hospitals, with organizations incorporating technology, biophilia, amenity spaces and more to keep the most frequented spaces warm and welcoming.

Arjun noted that “more hospitals are thinking about patients’ journey to recovery,” which is especially apparent in the under construction Mount Sinai Medical Center Braman Comprehensive Cancer Center. All infusion bays in the hospital have waterfront views, and a healing garden is an easily accessible place of respite for patients and their loved ones.

Our work with University of Cincinnati Health, University of Missouri Health Care and BJC HealthCare Campus Renewal are all highlighted within the piece.
